Open call for small SA sheep and cattle projects

SA sheep and cattle industry researchers and farming groups are invited to apply for small project funding up to $10,000 with project concepts which will provide benefits to the state’s livestock industry.

Sheep and Cattle Industry Funds Executive Officer Tom Cosentino said projects demonstrating funding co-contributions and collaborators with other programs or initiatives are encouraged.

“Projects are to be delivered within the 2020-21 financial year with project funding to be drawn from the SA Sheep and Cattle Industry Funds,” he said.

All applications will be assessed on various criteria and project concepts must benefit the SA sheep and cattle industries and align with the fund investment priorities.

“For the cattle industry, the target areas for the current round of funding are efficient and sustainable production and business management and skills development,” Tom said.

“For the sheep industry, the investment priorities are animal health, traceability, predator control, advocacy and industry development.”

Investment priorities and funding guidelines are outlined in further detail in the Sheep and Cattle Industry Fund Management Plans on the Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) website.

This call for small project funding applications follows the approval of more than $5 million from the Sheep and Cattle Industry Funds to support industry initiatives by the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development in August this year.

“The governance arrangement for the funds continues to provide the livestock industry with more ownership over the projects funded,” Tom said.

The Sheep and Cattle Industry Funds are established under the Primary Industry Funding Schemes Act 1998 and provides South Australia’s primary industry sectors the ability to raise funds to invest in improving and developing key livestock industries into the future.

Project applications are due by COB Monday 30 November 2020 and may be posted to Tom Consentino at the Livestock SA office or emailed to [email protected].
